On Monday, July 6, construction crews will begin minor street repairs along the pipeline
route in the cities of Vista and Carlsbad to prepare for final street paving, which will
begin on July 13. Crews will begin paving on Lionshead Avenue and continue west
towards South Melrose Drive and upper Faraday Avenue, just west of the Carlsbad
Research Center. The work will take approximately four weeks to complete.

This week, construction crews installed the final segment of the Carlsbad Desalination
Project’s pipeline. The pipeline stretches 10 miles from the nearly complete Carlsbad
Desalination Plant through the cities of Carlsbad, Vista and San Marcos to the San
Diego County Water Authority’s Second Aqueduct.

Over the past two years of construction, crews have worked diligently to install the
54-inch pipeline, completing work ahead of schedule. In that time, it took crews more
than a million hours of labor to install the pipeline and restore local roads – culminating
on June 29 with the installation of the final piece, No. 2177, beneath Macario Canyon
in Carlsbad.

Work initially scheduled to begin this week has been postponed until Monday, July 6 in
order to streamline final paving along the entire Carlsbad Desalination Pipeline route.

We will provide more details on the location, direction and specific dates of the paving
in the coming weeks.

Work on the Carlsbad Desalination Project pipeline is nearing completion. Construction
crews will be returning to Lionshead Avenue between May 27 and 29 to complete
paving activities between Business Park Drive and South Melrose Drive during the day.
Following the completion of paving along Lionshead, crews will begin work along
Faraday Avenue from South Melrose Drive to Orion Road at night.

In order to expedite work and limit traffic impacts, the construction will occur between
the hours of 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. and from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. respectively. During
construction, traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction.

When complete, traffic will be returned to its normal configuration.

Construction of the Carlsbad Desalination Project’s 10-mile conveyance pipeline
section that lies within the Carlsbad Research Center (CRC) is now complete. Last
week, crews performed final street restorations along several segments of pipeline,
returning traffic to its normal configurations along Faraday Avenue throughout the
CRC. Crews will return in late spring/early summer for a few days to complete final
paving throughout the CRC.

The Carlsbad Desalination Project team would like to thank everyone who lives and
works in the CRC and adjacent areas for their patience and cooperation throughout the
pipeline installation process.

Crews are currently installing pipe near the Newton Drive/Faraday Avenue intersection, heading east toward Van Allen Way. Construction along this segment is scheduled to be completed in mid-January.

Pipeline installation activities continue between Palmer Way and Orion Street along Faraday Avenue just east of the Carlsbad Research Center. Construction crews are making steady progress along this segment, which will be completed in January 2015.

Tunneling and paving are complete along Faraday Avenue between Priestly Drive and just east of El Camino Real, and traffic along this segment has returned to its normal configuration. Crews will return for final street restorations once construction along Faraday Avenue is complete in January.

Crews are continuing to tunnel under the Faraday Avenue/Orion Street intersection. By tunneling under this critical intersection, crews are able to further reduce their project footprint and maintain access and traffic flow throughout construction. Tunneling and paving will be completed at the Orion Street intersection in late January.

During construction, traffic along Faraday Avenue between Palmer Way and Orion Street is limited to one lane in each direction along the north side of the road.

East of the Carlsbad Research Center along Faraday Avenue, construction crews continue pipeline installation activities between Orion Street and Whiptail Loop West. Pipeline installation and street restorations along this segment of Faraday Avenue will be completed in January.

Pipeline installation activities continue between El Camino Real and Orion Street along Faraday Avenue in the Carlsbad Research Center. Construction crews are making steady progress along this segment, which will be completed in January 2015.

Tunneling and street restorations are progressing along Faraday Avenue between Priestly Drive and El Camino Real. Restoration along this segment will conclude in late December, and traffic will return to its normal configuration at that time.

Crews continue tunneling work along Faraday Avenue at the El Camino Real and Orion Street intersections. By tunneling under these critical intersections, crews are able to further reduce their project footprint and maintain access and traffic flow throughout construction. Tunneling and restoration activities will be completed at the El Camino Real intersection in December and at the Orion Street intersection in late January.

During construction, traffic along Faraday Avenue between Priestly Drive and Orion Street is limited to one lane in each direction along the north side of the road. Additionally, the east- and west-bound left turn lanes from El Camino Real onto Faraday Avenue are reduced to one turn lane in each direction.

East of the Carlsbad Research Center along Faraday Avenue, construction crews have begun pipeline installation activities between Orion Street and Whiptail Loop West. Pipeline installation and street restorations along this segment of Faraday Avenue will be completed in January.

Median restorations continue along Faraday Avenue west of the Carlsbad Research Center. Crews are also installing pipe near the Newton Drive/Faraday Avenue intersection, heading east toward Van Allen Way. Construction along this segment is scheduled to be completed in January.

Pipeline installation and street restoration activities continue along Faraday Avenue in the Carlsbad Research Center.

Over the next six weeks, crews will be completing tunneling activities and street restorations along Faraday Avenue between Priestly Drive and El Camino Real. The completion of restorations in late December will return traffic to its normal configuration along this segment of Faraday Avenue.

Construction crews are continuing to install pipeline east of El Camino Real, and will be continuing east towards Orion Street over the next five weeks. Nearby, tunneling work is under way along Faraday Avenue at the El Camino Real and Orion Street intersections. By tunneling under these critical intersections, crews are able to further reduce their project footprint and maintain access and traffic flow throughout construction.

Construction along this segment of the pipeline is scheduled to be completed by the end of January 2015.

During construction, traffic along Faraday Avenue between Priestly Drive and Orion Street is limited to one lane in each direction along the north side of the road. Additionally, the east- and west-bound left turn lanes from El Camino Real onto Faraday Avenue are reduced to one turn lane in each direction.

Median restorations are under way along a 500-foot section of Faraday Avenue west of the Carlsbad Research Center. Crews are installing pipeline near the Camino Hills Drive/Faraday Avenue intersection and will be continuing east toward Van Allen Way. Traffic control will be put in place between Camino Hills Drive and Van Allen Way along Faraday Avenue on Friday, November 14, in preparation for this work. Construction along this segment is scheduled to be completed by late December.

Construction crews continue to make progress on pipeline installation along Faraday Avenue in the Carlsbad Research Center. Pipeline installation has begun just east of El Camino Real and will head east towards Orion Street over the next five weeks.

Nearby, tunneling work is underway at the Faraday Avenue/Orion Street intersection. Crews are also installing tunnel access pits on both sides of El Camino Real this week, and are scheduled to begin tunneling under the Faraday Avenue/El Camino Real intersection early next week. By tunneling under these critical intersections, crews will be able to further reduce their project footprint and maintain access and traffic flow throughout construction.

Construction along this segment of the pipeline is scheduled to be completed by the end of January 2015.

Tunneling activities at the Rutherford Road and Priestly Drive intersections along Faraday Avenue are complete and crews will be completing street restorations this Friday, October 3. Starting Saturday, October 4, traffic will return to its normal configuration along Faraday Avenue between College Boulevard and Priestly Drive.

Also beginning Saturday, crews will be installing traffic control along Faraday Avenue from Priestly Drive east towards Orion Street, in preparation for pipeline construction. In that area, traffic will be limited to two lanes, one in each direction, along the north side of Faraday Avenue. Additionally, the east- and west-bound left turn lanes from El Camino Real onto Faraday Avenue will be reduced to one turn lane in each direction. Tunneling will begin under the El Camino Real and Orion Street intersections along Faraday Avenue in early October, while pipeline installation progresses east towards Orion Street. This section of pipeline will be completed in November, with the exception of a 500-foot section adjacent to Palmer Way, which will be completed in December.

Construction crews working to install the pipeline along Faraday Avenue east of Cannon Road have completed the 500-foot section west of the Carlsbad Research Center, and will begin median restorations this week. Construction crews will begin pipeline installation activities near the 1600 block of Faraday Avenue and will continue east toward College Boulevard.

Construction crews are continuing tunneling activities at the Rutherford Rd and Priestly Dr intersections along Faraday Avenue within the CRC. Tunneling activities are expected to be completed in early Oct, with street restorations to follow. Once crews complete street restorations, traffic control will return to normal along this section of the route and construction work on either side of El Camino Real will begin.

Construction crews began pipeline installation activities east of Orion Road, just east of the CRC. From there, pipeline installation will continue west along the route toward Orion Road. Along this segment, traffic will be limited to two lanes on the north side of the road with flaggers present. Additionally, construction between El Camino Real and Orion Rd is scheduled to begin in early October. Along this segment, traffic will be limited to two lanes on the north side of the road.

Construction crews working to install the pipeline along Faraday Avenue east of Cannon Road have completed the 500-foot section west of the CRC, and will be completing street and median restorations next week. Once street restorations are complete, construction crews will resume pipeline installation activities near the 1600 block of Faraday Avenue and will continue east toward College Boulevard.

In order to minimize construction impacts at the El Camino Real and Faraday Avenue intersection, construction crews are expediting work at the Rutherford Road and Priestly Drive intersections along Faraday Avenue. Tunneling activities at Rutherford Road and Priestly Drive are expected to be completed in mid and late September, respectively, with street restorations to follow. Construction work on either side of El Camino Real will not begin until street restorations are complete along Faraday Avenue, west of the intersection.

Additionally, construction crews will begin pipeline installation activities east of Orion Road beginning the week of September 15. Pipeline installation will continue west along the route and connect towards Orion Road. Along this segment, traffic will be limited to one lane on the north side of the road with flaggers present.

Construction crews working to install the pipeline along Faraday Avenue east of Cannon Road will complete the 500-foot section west of the CRC next week and street and median restorations will follow thereafter. Beginning next week, pipeline installation activities will continue east from the 1600 block of Faraday Avenue toward College Boulevard.

Construction crews are continuing to make progress tunneling under the Faraday Avenue/Rutherford Road intersection which is expected to conclude by October. Construction crews are continuing pipeline installation east of Rutherford Road and have begun preparing the tunnel access pits on either side of the Faraday Avenue/Priestly Drive intersection. By tunneling under these critical intersections, crews will be able to further reduce their project footprint and maintain access and traffic flow throughout construction.

Crews are continuing pipeline installation along Faraday Avenue east of Cannon Road and have reached the 1500 block of Faraday Avenue. Soon, work will resume approximately one-quarter mile west to complete a 500-foot section of pipeline closer to Cannon Road.

Construction crews have completed street restorations from Veterans Park to the western boundary of the CRC, and are currently working on median restoration.

Construction crews are wrapping up pipeline installation in a few areas within the Carlsbad Research Center (CRC) and, in an effort to expedite work, will begin working some Saturdays.

Construction crews are busy tunneling under the Faraday Avenue/Rutherford Road intersection, which is expected to conclude by October. Paving along Faraday Avenue, between College Boulevard and the tunnel pit west of Rutherford Road, will be completed Saturday, August 16. Starting next week, construction crews will resume pipeline installation trench work east of Rutherford Road along Faraday Avenue and will continue toward Priestly Drive. Once crews reach Priestly Drive, they will begin preparing the tunnel access pits on either side of the intersection. By tunneling under these critical intersections, crews will be able to further reduce their project footprint and maintain access and traffic flow throughout construction. In preparation for that work, traffic control will be installed this Saturday near Priestly Drive, limiting Faraday Avenue to one lane in each direction along the north side of the road.

Crews working to install the pipeline along Faraday Avenue east of Cannon Road have reached the CRC. Over the next two weeks, construction crews will be working near the 1500 and 1600 blocks of Faraday Avenue.  Traffic will be limited to one lane on the north side of the road with traffic flagged in either direction during the work hours of 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Before and after work hours two-way traffic will be restored. Restoration activities between Veteran’s Park and the work area will begin on Saturday, August 16. Completion of that segment will restore traffic to normal west of the work area.

In the Carlsbad Research Center (CRC), crews will begin work on Faraday Avenue, just west of Rutherford Road, this week. Once completed, crews will resume work within the CRC at Priestly Drive in late August and continue east along Faraday Avenue. Completing this segment early will allow crews to maintain current traffic controls and detours in place rather than having to remove and replace them. 

In late August, construction crews will begin digging tunnel access points along Faraday Avenue at Priestly Drive. By tunneling under these critical intersections, crews will be able to further reduce their project footprint and maintain access and traffic flow throughout construction.

Restoration activities at Rutherford Drive and Faraday Avenue began late last week and will continue as construction crews progress east.

Construction crews are nearly finished with pipeline installation and street restorations in the Lionshead Avenue/South Melrose Drive intersection. The intersection is scheduled to reopen to traffic by the end of the week. Pipeline installation has been completed along the east side of South Melrose Drive ahead of schedule. Street restorations are now underway and will be completed by September 2014. Access to Aspen Way remains blocked at this time.

Construction crews are continuing pipeline installation activities on Faraday Avenue east of Rutherford Drive. Trench work between Rutherford Drive and Priestly Drive will continue through July. Street restoration activities are complete between College Boulevard and Rutherford Drive and traffic along this section of the pipeline route has returned to normal. In August, construction crews will begin digging the tunnel access points on Faraday Avenue at Rutherford Drive. Additionally, tunneling activities at the Priestly Drive and El Camino Real intersections will begin in the fall.

Tunneling under Faraday Avenue is complete at both the Van Allen Way and College Boulevard intersections in the Carlsbad Research Center (CRC). Faraday Avenue will continue to be limited to one lane of traffic in each direction on the south side to ensure work area safety. 



Pipeline installation activities on either side of Van Allen Way and College Boulevard are currently underway and will continue into June. Restoration activities will follow the pipeline installation and will be completed prior to moving construction east of College Boulevard. 

Cannon Road, west of Grand Pacific Drive, will be completed and paved by Memorial Day weekend with traffic returning to normal. Existing traffic control on Cannon Road between Grand Pacific Drive and Faraday Avenue will be maintained through the year to ensure safety around this segment of the pipeline.

Crews are finished tunneling under Van Allen Way and are now working on the tunnel underneath College Boulevard. Pipeline installation along Faraday Avenue, west of Van Allen Way, continues and will be moving to the east side of Van Allen Way the week of May 5. During that time, Faraday Avenue will continue to be limited to one lane of traffic in each direction on the south side to ensure work area safety.  

Construction crews have also begun pipe installation underneath Interstate 5. Tunneling activities will not interfere with local traffic, and installation is expected to be completed in mid-May.

In the Carlsbad Research Center, pipe installation along Faraday Avenue, west of

Van Allen Way, is currently underway and will be moving east through early May.

Faraday Avenue will continue to be limited to one lane of traffic in each direction on

the south side to ensure work area safety. Construction work on Cannon Road

continues near Paseo Del Norte. Cannon Road will be restored west of Grand

Pacific Drive by late May. Existing traffic control on Cannon Road between Grand

Pacific Drive and Faraday Avenue will be maintained through the year.

Construction crews have completed the tunnel access points on Faraday Avenue at

Van Allen Way and College Boulevard. Pipe installation crews have mobilized along

Faraday Avenue, just west of Van Allen Way, and will begin pipe installation moving

east through early May. Faraday Avenue will continue to be limited to one lane of

traffic in each direction on the south side to ensure work area safety.

Construction crews have also begun preparatory work along the north side of Faraday

Avenue east of Whitman Way. Most of this work will be done during the day, but

to ensure safety in some areas, crews will be conducting some open trench work at

night. Daytime hours will be from 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and limited night work

hours will be from 7:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. beginning in late April. Stay tuned for

detailed information about traffic control plans in the area.

Construction crews are moving their way west along Lionshead Avenue and are quickly

approaching the South Melrose Drive intersection. The Eagle Drive intersection is

now open.

In mid-April, crews will close access to Lionshead Avenue from South Melrose Drive

for approximately six weeks to trench through the intersection. This closure will require

travelers to access Lionshead Avenue from Palomar Airport Road via Eagle Drive

throughout construction.

Additionally, Lionshead Avenue will reopen to two-way traffic between Eagle and

Business Park drives. At that time, street restorations will begin at Business Park Drive

and travel east into San Marcos. The streets that were impacted by construction will be

paved and left in better condition than when construction started.

Once construction starts, trench work will continue along the east side of South Melrose

Drive to Faraday Avenue through June. All traffic will be diverted to the west side of the

road and be limited to two lanes in each direction. To help traffic flow, crews have

restriped southbound Melrose Drive at Palomar Airport Road to add a second right

turn lane.

The pipeline work will extend the entire length of South Melrose Drive between

Lionshead and Faraday avenues, eliminating access to Aspen Way. Click on the map

Those traveling to Aspen Way will be detoured as follows:

•        Northbound on South Melrose Drive: Right on Park Center Drive; Right on Oak

Ridge Way to Aspen Way

•        Southbound on South Melrose Drive: Left on Oak Ridge Way to Aspen Way

South Melrose Drive/Faraday Avenue Intersection Tunnel

Once construction crews reach the South Melrose Drive/Faraday Avenue intersection,

crews will be tunneling underneath it to avoid a total closure of this heavily traveled

intersection. In order to tunnel under that intersection, crews will jack and bore two

pits – one on South Melrose Drive and one on Faraday Avenue. That work will begin

in April and it will take approximately two months to bore the tunnel and feed the pipe

under that intersection.

The tunnel work under this intersection will include the following traffic restrictions

in this area:

•        Southbound Melrose Drive traffic will not be able to turn left (east) onto Park Center

Drive and will have to use Oak Ridge Way.

•        Northbound South Melrose Drive traffic will not be able to turn left (west) onto

Faraday Avenue and will have to use Palomar Airport Road and El Fuerte Street

to access Faraday Avenue.

•        Brookhaven Pass access from South Melrose Drive will be limited to reduce

cut-through traffic.

Once trench work is complete on South Melrose Drive, crews will begin installing

pipe toward the west along Faraday Avenue. Pipeline work will be conducted

between the hours of 6:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. The Project team will keep residents

and commuters updated via the 24-hour construction hotline, website updates and

additional eNews updates.

Construction crews have completed digging the tunnel access points on Faraday Avenue at Van Allen Way. The tunnel access points, located on each side of the intersection, allow the crews to feed the pipe underground as traffic flows above. Faraday Avenue has been limited to one lane in each direction to provide room for crews to conduct work safely. Open trench work along Faraday Avenue, just west of Van Allen Way heading toward College Boulevard, is scheduled to begin the first week of April.

Faraday Avenue/Whitman Way

Crews have begun preparatory work and clearing the medians along Faraday Avenue east of Whitman Way. Crews will begin open trench work on the north side of Faraday Avenue in late March. To ensure work area safety, traffic has been limited to one lane in each direction and one lane with flaggers in certain areas on the south side of the road starting at Whitman Way and as needed towards Camino Hills Drive.

South Melrose Drive/Lionshead Avenue

Pipeline installation is rapidly progressing along Lionshead Avenue. The Eagle Drive intersection is now open. In mid-April, crews will close access to Lionshead Avenue from South Melrose Drive for approximately six weeks to trench through the intersection. This closure will require travelers to access Lionshead Avenue from Palomar Airport Road via Eagle Drive throughout construction. Additionally, Lionshead Avenue will reopen to two-way traffic between Eagle and Business Park drives. At that time, street restorations will begin at Business Park Drive and travel east into San Marcos. The streets that were impacted by construction will be paved and left in better condition than when construction started.

Construction crews began digging the tunnel this week at the intersection of Faraday Avenue and Van Allen Way. The tunnel access points are located on each side of Van Allen Way for the crews to feed the pipe underground allowing traffic to flow normally through the intersection above. Traffic has been limited to one lane in each direction on the south side of Faraday Avenue to safely conduct work. In late March, crews will begin open trench work along Faraday Avenue east of Van Allen Way toward College Boulevard.

 Crews will also begin pipeline construction on Faraday Avenue east of Whitman Way next week. Pipe installation will be on the north side of Faraday Avenue. To ensure work area safety, traffic will be limited to one lane with flaggers during working hours and one lane in each direction outside of working hours on the south side of the road starting at Whitman Way and as needed towards Camino Hills Drive.

 Trench work is rapidly progressing at the intersection of Cannon Road and Legoland Drive, and it is expected to be completed by mid- to late March. Access through the intersection will continue to be maintained at all times by closing half of the intersection at a time to accommodate the work.

 All traffic traveling on Cannon Road between Paseo Del Norte and Faraday Avenue will continue to be diverted to the north side of the median until work is complete in this area. In addition, the turn signal into the Discovery Center has been restored. Construction hours in Carlsbad are from 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. During construction, drivers should expect temporary lane closures, detours and reduced land widths, equipment along the route and should use caution and allow more time to reach their destination.

Changes in Work Plan to Reduce Impact to Four Key Intersection 

Work on the Carlsbad Desalination Project will begin on Faraday Avenue at Van Allen Way in the Carlsbad Research Center (CRC) on March 3.

The Project team has worked closely with the City of Carlsbad, the CRC Owners Association and individual businesses within the CRC to plan and coordinate the upcoming construction to minimize impacts to businesses. Following the Carlsbad Business Open House on January 29, the team explored additional opportunities in an effort to further reduce construction impacts within the CRC. As a result, crews will tunnel under four additional intersections along Faraday Avenue – Van Allen Way, College Boulevard, Rutherford Road and Priestly Drive. Originally slated to be trenched, pipe installation via underground tunneling in these areas allows crews to reduce the project footprint in four key intersections within the CRC and maintain access and normal traffic flow throughout construction at all times. Work on the Faraday Avenue/Van Allen Way tunnel is scheduled to begin on March 3.

There will be a jack and bore pit on Faraday Avenue on either side of Van Allen Way. Crews will feed the pipe underground causing no disruption to street operations above. In late March, crews will continue open trench work along Faraday Avenue east of Van Allen Way toward College Boulevard. Tunneling work at the College Boulevard, Rutherford Road and Priestly Drive intersections will begin in late March, May and July, respectively. Work is expected to conclude along Faraday Avenue between Van Allen Way and Priestly Drive by September 2014.

 Traffic is limited to one lane in each direction on one side of Faraday Avenue to safely conduct trench work. Construction hours in Carlsbad are from 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

The Carlsbad Desalination Project construction crews installing pipeline along Lionshead Avenue will reach the Eagle Drive intersection on February 19. To expedite work, the intersection will be closed for approximately four weeks. During the closure, traffic will be detoured to Eagle Drive via Palomar Airport Road.

In early March, eastbound traffic restrictions will be extended along Lionshead Avenue as work progresses toward South Melrose Drive. By late March, Lionshead Avenue will reopen to two-way traffic between Eagle and Business Park drives. Construction crews will continue to work extended hours from 6:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m.

Construction crews will begin trench work through the intersection of Cannon Road and Legoland Drive on Tuesday, February 18. Access through the intersection will be maintained at all times by closing half of the intersection at a time to accommodate the work, which is scheduled to be completed by mid- to late March.

 All traffic traveling on Cannon Road between Paseo Del Norte and Faraday Avenue will continue to be diverted to the north side of the median until work is complete in this area. To access the strawberry fields off Cannon Road, motorists should use the Paseo Del Norte detour. Just follow the strawberry signage posted along the detour route! Construction hours in Carlsbad are from 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Construction crews have finished trench work through the intersection of Cannon Road and Grand Pacific Drive, and regular traffic flow has been restored. In addition, the intersection of Cannon Road and Car Country Drive will reopen Saturday night. Construction is now moving west and is scheduled to reach the Legoland Drive intersection in mid-February.

All traffic traveling on Cannon Road between Paseo Del Norte and Faraday Avenue will continue to be diverted to the north side of the median until work is complete in this area. To access the Agua Hedionda Discovery Center, traffic can turn right on Faraday Avenue and make a u-turn at Whitman Way or continue on Cannon Road and use the detour via Hemingway Drive. Message signs are posted to provide motorists with closure information.

Construction hours in Carlsbad are from 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. During construction, drivers should expect temporary lane closures, detours and reduced land widths, equipment along the route and should use caution and allow more time to reach their destination.

Beginning on January 27, the Carlsbad Desalination Project construction crews will extend their work hours until 11:30 p.m. on Lionshead Avenue to expedite the excavation work in the area.

Lionshead Avenue will remain closed to eastbound traffic between Eagle and Business Park drives. During the closure, westbound traffic will remain open and eastbound drivers can use the Eagle Drive detour.

Beginning January 21, drivers will not be able to access Car Country Drive from Cannon Road for 12 days, including the weekend, to complete work in the intersection. During the closure, Car Country Drive can be accessed via Paseo Del Norte. Look for signs directing traffic.

Crews are also continuing to work their way through the Grand Pacific Drive intersection by closing half of the intersection at a time. Workers with flags are in place to help maintain two-way traffic from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. All traffic traveling on Cannon Road between Paseo Del Norte and Faraday Avenue will continue to be diverted to the north side of the median until work is complete in this area. Pipeline installation is expected to be complete west of Grand Pacific Drive by mid-March. To access the Agua Hedionda Discovery Center, traffic can turn right on Faraday Avenue and make a U-turn at Whitman Way or continue on Cannon Road and use the detour via Hemingway Drive. Message signs are posted to provide motorists with closure information.

Trench work continues on Cannon Road and is expected to reach the intersection of Car Country Drive by mid-December. At that time, to minimize impacts to local businesses during a critical time of year, construction crews will put work on hold for the holiday season on Cannon Road west of Grand Pacific Drive, and traffic will return to normal until 2014. During this time, crews will be working on Cannon Road east of Grand Pacific Drive.

Construction hours in Carlsbad will continue to be from 6:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. During construction, drivers should expect temporary lane closures, detours and reduced lane widths, equipment along the route and should use caution and allow more time to reach their destination.

Preparation work has continues on Cannon Road east of Paseo Del Norte. Part of this prep work will involve sheet piling. Nearby businesses and residents can expect noise associated with this work. Trench work is still scheduled to begin Wednesday, October 16 and continue through the fall.

Construction on the desalination pipeline is scheduled to begin on Cannon Road in October. Work on Cannon Road will continue through the fall and is expected to be completed in December. Construction work related to the Desalination Pipeline began in Carlsbad at the southwest corner of Avenida Encinas and Cannon Road in late June. Scheduled construction hours in Carlsbad are from 7.a.m. to 6 p.m. and the work is expected to be complete by mid-December.

The City of Carlsbad is also currently at work on Cannon Road to replace a lift station and sewer pipes that serve approximately 250 homes west of Interstate 5 and the coastal railroad tracks. The project is on the north side of Cannon Road between the railroad tracks and El Arbol Drive. The road will remain open during the project but traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction on occasion to accommodate the work. The City of Carlsbad expects the project to be completed by mid-September.
