Pipeline Installation is Complete

This week, construction crews installed the final segment of the Carlsbad Desalination Project’s pipeline. The pipeline stretches 10 miles from the nearly complete Carlsbad Desalination Plant through the cities of Carlsbad, Vista and San Marcos to the San Diego County Water Authority’s Second Aqueduct.

Pipeline Construction Reaches 75 Percent Complete Milestone

As of this week, 75 percent of the 10-mile pipeline has been installed, putting the Carlsbad Desalination Project on pace to begin delivering high quality, drought proof fresh water to San Diego County by late 2015.

Pipeline installation and most street restorations were completed in San Marcos in May and crews will be wrapping up in Vista by October. In Carlsbad, work has been completed along Cannon Road and Avenida Encinas, and pipeline installation along Faraday Avenue within the Carlsbad Research Center will continue through December.

Progress also continues at the plant where construction is approximately 60 percent complete.

When completed, the Carlsbad Desalination Plant will be the largest, most technologically advanced and energy efficient desalination plant in the Western Hemisphere. Additionally, KUSI News broadcast live on-site at the desalination plant in Carlsbad last week to showcase the plant’s revolutionary technology.

Carlsbad Desalination Project construction crews continue to make progress on pipeline installation in the cities of Carlsbad and Vista. Construction Work in Carlsbad Coming Soon

Construction on the desalination pipeline is scheduled to begin in Carlsbad in June. Pipeline work began in San Marcos at the San Diego County Water Authority’s Second Aqueduct connection facility and will travel through San Marcos, Vista and Carlsbad to connect to the desalination plant located in Carlsbad, west of Interstate 5. The first phase of construction on Cannon Road will begin on June 6 on the Southwest corner of Cannon Road and Avenida Encinas. On August 15, the next phase of construction on Cannon Road will begin at Faraday Avenue and travel west. Stay tuned for more updates as construction continues on the desalination pipeline.

Construction Work in San Marcos

The first segment of pipeline construction is currently under way in San Marcos at Rancho Santa Fe Road and Creek Street. On April 1, construction near Saint Joseph Academy on Las Flores and 9th Street will begin and work will travel east on 9th Street toward Rancho Santa Fe Road. On April 18, construction on Poinsettia Avenue and W. Linda Vista Drive will begin and travel south on Poinsettia Drive toward Specialty Drive. On April 29th, work on Las Flores Drive will travel from Saint Joseph Academy south toward W. Linda Vista Drive. Finally, on June 1, work will begin on W. Linda Vista Drive from Las Flores Street toward Poinsettia Avenue. Construction work in San Marcos is expected to be completed by August 2013. Pipeline construction is underway

Preliminary site preparations are well underway for the first phase of construction on the pipeline aspect of the project. Construction teams have begun to position heavy equipment and materials as site planning moves forward. Meanwhile, salvage operations continue on large physical plant features and grading and other foundational preparations have begun to lay the groundwork for plant construction. More updates to follow.
